Dwight Yoakam Lights Up California Rodeo Salinas Concert Stage
Over the weekend, Dwight Yoakam lit up a crowd of about 2,000 at the Centennial Rodeo Music Stampede in Salinas, California .The two-time Grammy winner set cowboy hats a-bobbing and cowboy boots tapping as cheers filled the Salinas Sports Complex's rear softball field. Ken Adams of Salinas said he's been excited about the show ever since it was announced last month."I saw that and said, 'we gotta watch Dwight Yoakam for sure,'" Adams said. "Dwight Yoakam is a phenomenal guitar player — but he's probably an even better actor. Oh my God. He is THE guy in 'Panic Room.'" Yoakam entertained not only his biggest fans, but made some new ones in the process. "We have no idea who that is," said Veronica Stevenson of Hollister, who attended with her sister, Eugenia Sanchez. "We just came out to have fun." For the third song of his set, Yoakam turned up the charm.
"Thanks for coming tonight, Salinas," he called over the fans pressing close to the stage. "It is a pleasure to be in this part of my adopted state."

Blame the Vain 5-year Anniversary!
This week celebrates five years since Dwight Yoakam's latest release, Blame The Vain. To help commemorate this part of Dwight Yoakam's music history, we would like to share an article that was featured on Blame The Vain back in 2005 during the initial release.
The Boston Globe - June 25, 2005
By: Stuart Munro
More than ever before, this album is all Dwight Yoakam. He is solely responsible for its production and all of its material.
Most significantly, he made it without Pete Anderson, with whom he has worked since he was scraping for gigs and looking for his first break 30-plus years ago. Longtime backing unit the Babylonian Cowboys is also gone. Instead, Yoakam is drawing on the talents of a resurgent LA country-rock scene reminiscent of the one he was a part of in the mid-'80s along with the Blasters, X, and Los Lobos. He relies particularly on guitar slinger Keith Gattis and uses his stripped-down band to produce a sound that hearkens back to the electric hillbilly of his early records. There are splashes of pedal steel, and keyboard player Skip Edwards makes his presence know in the Elvis-in-Memphis vibe on "When I First Came Here." But at its root, "Blame the Vain" is vintage, guitar-based hillbilly rock and California honky tonk. Yoakam sounds positively rejuvenated.

Dwight Speaks Up About Nashville
Dwight posted a message yesterday on his MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook yesterday addressing the flood in the Middle Tennessee area
My heart goes out to everyone in Nashville. I am deeply saddened by the devastation and loss that this flood has caused to the community at large as well as to the great icons and landmarks of Country Music. I'm sending my thoughts and prayers to both my personal friends, and the thousands of others in Nashville and throughout Tennessee who have been so tragically affected by this flood. - Dwight

Dwight Live at Caesars
"Most times you know what to expect at a casino show. An opening act, followed by a half hour break, followed by an hour and fifteen minutes from the headliner.
Well Dwight Yoakam ignored the conventions of the “get them back to the tables” casino show. He walked out on the Circus Maximus stage at Caesars and proceeded to put on a two-hour plus show that by my count included over 35 songs. He never took a break, starting the next song before the applause died down from the previous one."
Check out what PressOfAtlanticCity.com has to say about Dwight:
"The album's still the thing for Dwight Yoakam. The veteran country singer and songwriter, who is preparing for a return to the studio, isn't ready to give up on the long-playing format yet.
"Albums are still albums - I take exception to folks saying they don't make albums anymore," says Yoakam, who performs at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Caesars Atlantic City.
"A record literally means a record of music. We're still making records and still making albums, if the individual artist working still merits it.
"If you're doing a bunch of filler ... people didn't want that when we were buying vinyl albums."
Yoakam, who during his long career has updated the traditional honky-tonk style of country without ever going pop, is prepping his first album of original material in five years. Giving shape to a collection of music is just as important to him now as it was when he made his critically acclaimed debut in 1986 with "Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc."

Guitar-Pull Hosted by Chris Isaak with Special Guests
"Any visitor to the [Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum] realizes that music also can take the form of a joke, a nursery rhyme, a prayer, a come-on or a campfire tale. ... Harris, Yoakam, Melissa Etheridge and Vince Gill touched upon all those forms, showing the flexibility of ‘country' as they did so. ... Call it country, but it really isn't any one thing." Ann Powers, Los Angeles Times
The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum's third annual All for the Hall fundraiser, featuring distinguished talents Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam, and Melissa Etheridge, and hosted by Chris Isaak, proved to be an extraordinarily moving experience. Held for the first time in Los Angeles, at Club Nokia at L.A. Live on October 1, the event featured the musicians in a "guitar pull." The relaxed format, a Nashville tradition where songwriters trade off performing new and favorite material, not only brought out some exceptional songs, it afforded each singer a sense of spontaneity and connection with their colleagues that created a unique momentum.
Dwight is included in Ralph Stanley's upcoming memoirs, due out October 15th.
"Man of Constant Sorrow: My Life and Times," the autobiography from the legendary bluegress artist, features glimpses into the lives of several fellow artists including Dwight, Bill Monroe, A. P. Carter (of the fabled Carter Family), Porter Wagoner, George Jones, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and of King Records founder Syd Nathan and producer T. Bone Burnett.

Announcing: All-Star Tribute To Late Country Music Legend Buck Owens
World-famous artists from all walks of popular music will join together to salute the late Buck Owens in a special performance during the ACM Awards show, which will air on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 8:00 pm ET/PT from the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
Dwight Yoakam, ZZ Top guitarist and vocalist Billy Gibbons, Brad Paisley, Buddy Alan (son of Buck & Bonnie Owens), original Buck Owens & The Buckaroos steel guitarist Tom Brumley, Chris Hillman (The Byrds) and blink-182/+44 drummer Travis Barker will all play together in the tribute. Vince Vaughn will introduce the segment.
Buck Owens, a legendary country music artist with twenty-one No. 1 country music hits during his long career, passed away on March 25th of this year. The tribute will not only salute his music, but his status as a true ambassador of country music. He was the ACM's very first Top Male Vocalist winner, in 1965. He was also honored with the Academy's most respected honor, the Pioneer Award, in 1998.
"Losing Buck Owens was a real blow to this community, and we wanted to do something special to show the world just how important he was to country music," said Bob Romeo, Executive Director, Academy of Country Music. "We've gotten some fantastic artists together, from all different musical genres, and they're going to honor the man with a musical performance you will never forget.”
Buck Owens August 12, 1929 - March 25, 2006 "I was devastated by Buck’s passing since I had talked to him just a couple days ago and even though he seemed in a somewhat fragile physical state, he was emotionally exuberant and still living life in a forward motion, discussing a variety of plans for his future. My thoughts and prayers are with his three sons, Buddy Allen, Michael and Johnny, his grandchildren and his girlfriend Karen. I will cherish, forever, the musical moments he graciously shared with me during his life. I will be eternally grateful for his fatherly chastisements, encouragement and, ultimately, his friendship and love. I will miss him deeply.”

Review: Dwight Yoakam at La Zona Rosa "Leavening his set with crowd pleasers ranging back to the formative "Guitars and Cadillacs," Yoakam meandered from a set that seemed both random and focused, and yet engagingly intimate. "Thanks for sticking around," he told the near-capacity crowd shortly after taking the stage. Those may have been the most superlative words yet uttered at this year's music festival." Click Here
